Description

We will start the tour on the German cemetery of Vladslo, where Kathe Kollwitz’ statue The Grieving Parents is a silent, emotional roar against war. Next, the tour will take you to Diksmuide to visit the infamous Trenches of Death, where soldiers fought bravely until the last offensive in 1918, and to the Peace Gate and Yser Tower. In St. Julian, we will stop at the memorial of the Brooding Soldier, commemorating the Canadian resistance during the German gas attacks in 1915. After lunch, the tour continues to the In Flanders Fields museum and to Essex Farm Cemetery, where John McCrae wrote the famous poem In Flanders Fields. Then our guide willtake you to Tyne Cot, the largest Commonwealth Cemetery. After dinner, we will attend the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate, a memorial for all British soldiers and officers who were never found.
